How to enable Authentication for SMTP (outgoing mail)

If you are having problems sending email and the error says that the SMTP server rejected your ip address, it also may give the error code 0x800CCC61, please follow the instructions below.

Outlook Express

  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. Click Tools and select Accounts...
  3. Select Mail tab
  4. Select Lanset mail account and select Properties
  5. Select Servers tab
  6. Check My Server Requires Authentication
  7. Select Settings...
  8. Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server
  9. Click OK
  10. Click OK
  11. Click Close

Microsoft Outlook

  1. Open MS Outlook
  2. Click Tools and select Email Accounts
  3. Select View or change existing e-mail accounts and click OK
  4. Select Lanset mail account and click Change...
  5. Click More Settings
  6. Select Outgoing Server tab
  7. Check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
  8. Select Use Same Settings as Incoming Mail Server
  9. Click OK
  10. Click Next
  11. Click Finish


  1. Open Thunderbird
  2. Click Tools and select Account Settings
  3. Select Outgoing Server (SMTP)
  4. Select Lanset mail account and click Edit
  5. Click drop down arrow for Authentication method
  6. Select Password, transmitted insecurely
  7. Type username in the Username field
  8. Click OK
  9. Click OK

Mac Mail

  1. Open Mac Mail
  2. Click Mail in the upper right corner
  3. Select Preferences
  4. Click Accounts
  5. Click on the server name next to Outgoing Mail Server(SMTP)
  6. Select Edit SMTP Server List
  7. Make sure the server name is selected in the top box
  8. In the fields below Description can be the domain name
  9. Enter the server name
  10. TLS Certificate is None
  11. Authentication is Password
  12. User Name is the full email address for the account you are checking
  13. Enter password that the email address you are cheking
  14. Click Ok
